Sermon synopsis: We know today that all it takes to have a day-night cycle is a rotating Earth and light coming from one direction. The Bible tells us clearly that God created light on the first day, as well as the Earth.

Thus we can deduce that the Earth was already rotating in space relative to this created light. God can, of course, create light without a secondary source. We are told that in the new heavens and Earth there will be no need for sun or moon Rev 21:23. In Genesis, God even defines a day and a night in terms of light or its absence.

Questions from Genesis?

Genesis 1:1-5.

1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.

3 And God said, “Let there be light, ” and there was light.

4 God saw that the light was good,

and he separated the light from the darkness.

5 God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning— the first day.

Genesis 1:14-19.

14 And God said, “Let there be lights in the vault of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark sacred times, and days and years,

15 and let them be lights in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth.” And it was so.

16 God made two great lights—the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars.

17 God set them in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth,

18 to govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good. 19 And there was evening, and there was morning—the fourth day.

Why was there light before the sun was created?

We know today that all it takes to have a day-night cycle is a rotating Earth and light coming from one direction.

Why was there light before the sun was created?

In Genesis 1:3, the Old Testament records that God said:

‘Let there be light.’

Since the sun, moon, and stars were not made until the fourth day (1:14-16), what was the nature of the ‘light’ mentioned in verse 3?”

The Bible student must deduce that the “light” of Genesis 1:3 was not that which three days later, emanated from the sun, the moon, or the stars.

The fiat of verse 14, “Let there be lights,” expresses the same sort of creative activity, out of nothing came something by the command of God. christiancourier.com

Why was there light before the sun was created?

Nor can it be argued legitimately that the sun, moon, and stars were “created” on the first day of the initial week, and then were simply made to “appear” on the fourth day, as advocates of the Gap Theory have attempted to establish. There is no basis in the Hebrew text for that conclusion.

The fact is, it is not possible to know exactly what the initial light-source was, for we have no information beyond what is affirmed in verse 3, and that is merely stated, not explained.

There are, however, a couple of logical conclusions that may be drawn from the sketchy data presented.

Why was there light before the sun was created?

The “light” of Genesis 1:3 obviously radiated from a “fixed” source, in its relationship to the earth, inasmuch as it facilitated the dark-to-light arrangement, as the primitive orb rotated upon its axis.

This initial “light” was temporary, for the sun was assigned the function of the “greater light” on the fourth day.

There is nothing at all strange about the reality of light existing independent of the heavenly bodies. It is a well-established fact, illustrated in multiple ways, that “light” certainly is not restricted to the sun and the other luminaries of our universe. Just consider that phenomenon known as “lightning,” or ask the friendly “firefly” about the matter. christiancourier.com

Why was there light before the sun was created?

‘Progressive creationists’ sometimes use the argument that the days are really long periods, and we will look at that when we deal with the age of the earth on Sunday.

The creation of the sun after the Earth undermines progressive creationists’ attempts to harmonise the Bible with billions of years.

So they must explain this teaching away.

Some assert that what really happened on this fourth ‘day’ was that the sun and other heavenly bodies ‘appeared’ when a dense cloud layer dissipated after millions of years.

This is not only fanciful science, but bad exegesis of Hebrew.

Why was there light before the sun was created?

The word ‘asah means ‘make’ throughout Genesis 1, and is sometimes used interchangeably with ‘create’ (bara’), e.g. in Genesis 1:26–27.

It is pure desperation to apply a different meaning to the same word in the same grammatical construction in the same passage, just to fit in with atheistic evolutionary ideas like the ‘big bang’.

If God had meant ‘appeared’, then He presumably would have used the Hebrew word for appear (ra’ah), as when the dry land ‘appeared’ as the waters gathered in one place on Day 3 (Genesis 1:9).

We have checked over 20 major translations, and all clearly teach that the sun, moon and stars were made on the fourth day. creation.com

Why was there light before the sun was created?

Sceptics have long ridiculed the science of biblical creation over this point. How could there be light bathing the earth before the sun was created? Obviously the Bible must be in error. But as always, this apparent error drives us to look more closely at the relevant data, both scientific and biblical.

Actually there are many sources of light, not just the sun.

There are also many types of light, not just visible light. Short-wave light includes ultraviolet light, X-rays, and others. Long-wave light includes infrared light, radio waves, etc. Light is produced by friction, by fire, by numerous chemical reactions, as well as the nuclear reactions of atomic fission and fusion, which is what we think is occurring in the sun. icr.org

Why was there light before the sun was created?

God had at His fingertips many options to accomplish His purposes. Light does not automatically require the sun.

Furthermore, we have important data given by the Hebrew words used in the creation account.

When God created "light" in verse 3, the word used connotes the presence of light only.

However the word used for "lights" on Day Four is best translated "light bearers," or permanent light sources. Their purpose was not only to give light, but to serve as timekeepers for man once he was created.

Genesis 1:14 And God said, Let there be lights in the vault of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark sacred times, and days and years

Why was there light before the sun was created?

For semi-creationists who claim that the "days" of Genesis 1 must have been long periods of time, a serious problem arises.

Genesis plainly teaches that plants appeared on Day Three, and the insects on Day Five.

How did plants survive billions of years without pollination?

If the days were long epochs, as demanded by critics of a literal Creation Week, plants could not survive.

How much better and more satisfying it is to accept Scripture as it stands.

There is light and no sun in the New Jerusalem.

No Sun In The Future. The Bible says there will be light without the sun in the future New Jerusalem.

Revelation 22:5.

And there shall be no night there: They shall need no lamp nor light of the sun, for the Lord God gives them light. And they shall reign for ever and ever.

Isaiah 60:19.

The sun shall no longer be your light by day, nor for brightness the moon shall give light to you; but the Lord will be your everlasting light.

There is light and no sun in the New Jerusalem.

Revelation 21:10,11 &23-27.

And he carried me away in the Spirit to a mountain great and high, and showed me the Holy City, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God.It shone with the glory of God, and its brilliance was like that of a very precious jewel, like a jasper, clear as crystal......The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp.

There is light and no sun in the New Jerusalem.

Revelation 21:10,11 &23-27 (continued)

The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their splendour into it. On no day will its gates ever be shut, for there will be no night there.

The glory and honour of the nations will be brought into it.Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life.

The Evolution Fairy Tale.

The Evolution Fairy Tale.

The Creationist believes in one miracle working God who is the designer of all we see.

The evolutionist does not only believe in one miracle but countless miracles of how nothing became something and exploded 13.6 billion years ago and the miracles did not stop there life was created by a very fortuitous lightning bolt that stuck a primordial pool resulting in the creation of a single cell bacteria (The DNA content of which would fill two 500 page books)

To explain this miracle without a designer is absolutely impossible, as in the so called simple single cell are millions of motors that are responsible for the manufacture of the proteins that are the fuel for the cell.

The Evolution Fairy Tale.

If a cell, which cannot be seen with the naked eye by the way, was 20 km in diameter, then one of these motors (Which spin at 600 rpm) would stand 1m high.

Adding to this each motor consists of 31 separate parts. Each one of these parts have to be present simultaneously for the motor to function.

But still the miracles carried on and with the magical wave of the million year wand life progressed through so called lucky mutations that added information to the DNA (Something that has never been scientifically observed, all mutations observed , even beneficial ones have led to a loss of information).

The Evolution Fairy Tale.

Finally, and even more amazing than the kiss of a princess turning a frog into a prince you have a man and nogal a woman as well to procreate and keep the species going. Then to add the finishing touch to this wonderful fairy tale, they have the earth as a home, with just the right size and gravitational pull that they can walk and just the right amount of oxygen in the air to breathe without any poisonous gases to spoil this evolutionary paradise, the sun at just the right distance to sustain life without freezing or frying and an endless water source to sustain and nourish their lucky planet.

And they lived happily ever after.

I DON’T KNOW ABOUT YOU BUT I DON’T THINK THAT I AM THE ONE WITH BLIND FAITH.
