SERMON TOPIC: The 7 sayings of Jesus on the cross - Part 2

Topic Groups: EASTER, CRUCIFIXION

Sermon synopsis: The 4th saying of Jesus of Jesus on the cross.

Matt 27:45 From the sixth hour until the ninth hour darkness came over all the land. 46 About the ninth hour Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?”—which means, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”

In Jesus’ first and last cry on the cross He addresses God as “Father”. But here during the 3 hour period when God turns His back on His Son as He bears the sin of the world, Jesus’ relationship with the Father is broken – and He addresses Him as “My God” and no longer as “Father”.

Jesus cries, “My God, My God, why….?” – this is the only time Jesus questioned the Father.
