The resurrected life.

Colossians 2:11-12.

In him you were also circumcised with a circumcision not performed by human hands. Your whole self ruled by the flesh was put off when you were circumcised by Christ, having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through your faith in the working of God, who raised him from the dead.

Galatians 3:27.

For all of you who were baptized into Christ

have clothed yourselves with Christ.

The resurrected life.

Baptism is symbolic of the death of our life (A funeral, or burial) so that Christ can live His resurrected life through us.

The resurrected life.

Romans 6:1-8.

What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly also be united with him in a resurrection like his.

For we know that our old self was crucified with him

so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin

because anyone who has died has been set free from sin. Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him.

The Passover and what it symbolised.

For the children of Israel, the Passover symbolised their freedom from the slavery of Egypt and being brought into the promised land, flowing with milk and honey.

For the Christian, the breaking of bread (Communion) which is the fulfilment of the Passover feast , symbolises the fact that the Lord setting us free from the slavery of sin and this world, bringing us into a life of abundance.

Salvation is not just a bringing out, but a bringing in, it is not just a giving up, but receiving, it is not just a losing, but a gaining, it is not just a putting off, but a putting on.

The Passover and what it symbolised.

Many professing Christians have not entered the abundant life that Jesus Christ promised to His followers.

Their testimony is not one of gain, but of loss, their spiritual life is fore shadowed in the Old Testament wanderings of the Israelites, wandering around in the desert grumbling and complaining about every new challenge. They reflect longingly on their previous life of slavery and the Lord has to provide for them or they would starve.

They never cross over the Jordan into the abundant life of fulfilment that is on offer to the Spirit led child of God but languish and die in the wilderness, brought out of Egypt but never brought into the promised land.

The resurrected life.

Numbers 11:4-6.

The rabble with them began to crave other food, and again the Israelites started wailing and said, If only we had meat to eat! We remember the fish we ate in Egypt at no cost also the cucumbers, melons, leeks, onions and garlic. But now we have lost our appetite; we never see anything but this manna!

The Passover and what it symbolised.

Exodus 13:3-10.

Then Moses said to the people, Commemorate this day, the day you came out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery, because the LORD brought you out of it with a mighty hand. Eat nothing containing yeast. Today, in the month of Aviv, you are leaving.

When the LORD brings you into the land of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Hivites and Jebusites, the land he swore to your ancestors to give you, a land flowing with milk and honey, you are to observe this ceremony in this month:

Numbers 9 is the only record of the Passover observed being in the wilderness.

The Passover and what it symbolised.

Exodus 13:3-10 (continued)

For seven days eat bread made without yeast and on the seventh day hold a festival to the LORD. Eat unleavened bread during those seven days; nothing with yeast in it is to be seen among you, nor shall any yeast be seen anywhere within your borders. On that day tell your son, I do this because of what the LORD did for me when I came out of Egypt. This observance will be for you like a sign on your hand and a reminder on your forehead that this law of the LORD is to be on your lips. For the LORD

brought you out of Egypt with his mighty hand.

You must keep this ordinance at the appointed time year after year.

The Passover and what it symbolised.

Exodus 13:9,

This observance will be for you like a sign on your hand and a reminder on your forehead that this law of the LORD is to be on your lips. For the LORD brought you out of Egypt with his mighty hand. You must keep this ordinance at the appointed time year after year.

This observance will be for you like a sign on your hand. The Passover observance is a reminder that Salvation changes the things you do.

A reminder on your forehead. Salvation changes the way you think.

This law of the LORD is to be on your lips. Salvation changes the way you talk.

The resurrected life.

Salvation must change our actions, our thoughts and our speech.

Some of these changes take place over a period of time as our minds need to be transformed.

Romans 12:2.

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is, his good, pleasing and perfect will.

However there should be a drastic change at conversion as we see with Zacchaeus.

1 John 3:14.

We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love each other.

Anyone who does not love remains in death.

The resurrected life.

The Passover observance is a reminder that Salvation has changed the things you do.

Luke 19:8-9.

But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount. Jesus said to him, Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham.

Salvation changes the things you do.

Colossians 3:1-17. Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. Because of these, the wrath of God is coming. You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.

Salvation changes the things you do.

Colossians 3:1-17 (Continued)

Here there is no Gentile or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all, and is in all. Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Salvation changes the things you do.

Romans 13:8-14.

Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law. The commandments, “You shall not commit adultery, You shall not murder, You shall not steal, You shall not covet, and whatever other command there may be, are summed up in this one command: Love your neighbour as yourself. Love does no harm to a neighbour. Therefore love is the fulfilment of the law. And do this, understanding the present time: The hour has already come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. The night is nearly over; the day is almost here.

So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armour of light. Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy. Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh.

A reminder on your forehead.

Salvation changes the way you think.

Ephesians 4:22-28.

You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbour, for we are all members of one body. In your anger do not sin: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold. Anyone who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with their own hands, that they may have something to share with those in need.

Deuteronomy 10:16.

Circumcise your hearts, therefore, and do not be stiff-necked any longer.

The flesh is a way of thinking.

Salvation changes the way you think.

Not just to lust and greed and bitterness etc, but to man’s logic.

It is not just putting a stop to certain wrong thoughts by starving them, ignoring them, but to put something in their place.

Exodus 13:9.

The law of the Lord is to be on your lips.

Deuteronomy 11:8-12.

Observe therefore all the commands I am giving you today, so that you may have the strength to go in and take over the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess, and so that you may live long in the land the LORD swore to your ancestors to give to them and their descendants, a land flowing with milk and honey. The land you are entering to take over is not like the land of Egypt, from which you have come, where you planted your seed and irrigated it by foot as in a vegetable garden. But the land you are crossing the Jordan to take possession of is a land of mountains and valleys that drinks rain from heaven. It is a land the LORD your God cares for......

Salvation changes the way you think.

Deuteronomy 11:18-25.

Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates, so that your days and the days of your children may be many in the land the LORD swore to give your ancestors, as many as the days that the heavens are above the earth. If you carefully observe all these commands I am giving you to follow to love the LORD your God, to walk in obedience to him and to hold fast to him then the LORD will drive out all these nations before you, and you will dispossess nations larger and stronger than you. Every place where you set your foot will be yours: Your territory will extend from the desert to Lebanon, and from the Euphrates River to the Mediterranean Sea. No one will be able to stand against you.

Salvation changes the way you think.

Proverbs 3:5-6.

Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.

This reminds me that Jesus said that unless we become like little children, we will not enter the Kingdom of heaven.

Luke 18:17.

Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.

A child does not have their mind filled with logic and reason and opinions and interpretations etc.

God has had enough of our own cleverness, He wants us to trust Him, to depend on Him, to leave it in His hands.

This law of the LORD is to be on your lips.

Salvation changes the way you talk.

Ephesians 4:29-32.

Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

Philippians 2:14-15.

Do everything without complaining or murmuring, so that you may be blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation…..

James 5:9

Don’t grumble against each other brothers or you will be judged, the judge is standing at the door.

Salvation changes the way you talk.

1 Corinthians 10:9-11

…..and do not grumble as some of them did and were killed by the destroying angel.

1Peter 3:9.

Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult but with blessing.

1Peter 2:23.

When they hurled insults at him he did not retaliate, when he suffered he made no threats.

1 Corinthians 4:13.

When we are slandered we answer kindly.

Titus 2:9.

Teach slaves not to speak back to their masters.

Jesus gave this instruction to his disciples.

Luke 21:12-15.

I will give you words and wisdom that none of your adversaries will be able to resist or contradict.

Salvation changes the way you talk.

James 3:9-10.

With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God’s likeness. Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be.

James 1:26.

If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not keep a tight rein on his tongue, he deceives himself and his religion is worthless.

1 Peter 3:10.

Whoever would love life and see good days must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from deceitful speech.

Salvation changes the way you talk.

Be slow to speak is not only a case of

thinking before you speak, but being

reluctant to speak.

Words unexpressed may sometimes

fall back dead, but even God can’t

kill them when they are said.

Speak as those who will be judged.

James 2:12-16.

Speak and act as those who are

going to be judged by the law that gives freedom, because judgement without mercy will be shown to anyone who has not been merciful…….

Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes or food, If one of you says to them. Go in peace keep warm and well fed, but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it?

Avoid the hypocrisy of speaking a word of blessing without doing anything to be a blessing.

The resurrected life.

Ephesians 5:1-20.

Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.

But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people. Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving. For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person, such a person is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.

Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things God’s wrath comes on those who are disobedient. Therefore do not be partners with them. For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) and find out what pleases the Lord.

The resurrected life.

Ephesians 5:1-20 (continued)

Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. It is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret. But everything exposed by the light becomes visible, and everything that is illuminated becomes a light. This is why it is said: Wake up, sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you. Be very careful, then, how you live, not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.

Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is. Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery.

Instead, be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

The resurrected life.

Put on Christ:

Do the right thing, the right way, at the right time for the right reason.

A Nobleman’s son said to him, father I don’t know the purpose of my life, what am I supposed to do.

His father answered him, son, get to know the King and you will know what you must do.
