OUR HEART MUST BE

PURIFIED

PROTECTED AND

PREPARED (BECAUSE THE TONGUE HAS A PURPOSE)

TO SOLVE THIS HEART PROBLEM

Matthew 12:34.

The mouth is the overflow of the heart.

OUR TONGUE REVEALS WHAT IS IN OUR HEART.

Matthew 15:19-20.  For out of the heart come evil thoughts—murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander. These are what defile a person;

THE NEW COVENANT PROMISE

Ezekial 36:26.

I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you.

2 Corinthians 5:17.

Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

CHRISTIANITY IS ABOUT REGENERATION

AND NOT REFORMATION

Luke 5:37.

No one puts new wine into old wineskins; or else the new wine will burst the wineskins and be spilled, and the wineskins will be ruined. But new wine must be put into new wineskins, and both are preserved.

THIS REGULAR CLEANSING WAS SYMBOLIZED BY JESUS WHEN HE WASHED HIS DISCIPLES FEET.

GOD’S WORD

Ephesians 5:25.

Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.

EVEN AS BELIEVERS, WE NEED THE CLEANSING OF THE WORD

Not just by knowing the truth but obeying it. (It must be applied!)

1 Peter 1:22.

Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth, love one another earnestly from a pure heart.

AW Towzer: We don’t need a change of menu; we need a change of appetite.

Psalms 37:3-4.

Take delight in the Lord, he will give you the desires of your heart.

Philippians 2:13  It is God who is working in you. He helps you want to do what pleases him, and he gives you the power to do it.

Draw closer to Him and you’ll discover that God is at work in you.  He helps you do what pleases him. In other words, He’s in the business of changing your appetite from sin to Him. And … he gives you the power to do it.

Hard.

Stony.

Thorny.

Good.

WHAT IS YOUR HEART LIKE?

We are responsible for our Heart condition.

HAVE YOU COME WITH A HEART PREPARED TO HEAR GOD’S WORD TODAY HAVE YOU GOT RID OF THE ROCKS AND THORNS (CARES AND FALSE HOPES)?

HAVE YOU DONE SOME PLOUGHING (PRAYING AND REPENTING) AS YOU HAVE ALLOWED GOD’S WORD TO SEARCH YOUR HEART?

Proverbs 17:3.

The crucible for silver and the furnace for gold, but the Lord tests the heart.

IF WE DON’T PLOUGH OUR HEARTS,GOD WILL,LIKE HE DID WITH DAVID

David allowed his heart to become defiled

Have we allowed our hearts to be defiled?

Like David you can ask the lord

To create a clean heart, in you!

Hosea 14:2.

Take words with you and return to the LORD. Say to him: “Forgive all our sins and receive us graciously, that we may offer the fruit of our lips.

Psalm 51:10-12. Create in me a pure heart, O God,     

DAVID REPENTED AND SO CAN WE.

WITH A PURIFIED HEART LET US MAKE THIS OUR GOAL. .

PURIFIES US.

PROTECTS US FROM OUR OWN SINFUL NATURE. (PSALM 119:11)

PROTECTS US FROM SATAN. (SWORD OF THE SPIRIT

PREPARES US FOR A PURPOSE.

GOD’S WORD

Proverbs 4:23-24.

Above all else, guard your heart for everything you do flows from it. Keep your mouth free of perversity; keep corrupt talk far from your lips

How do we keep corrupt talk from our lips??

By guarding our heart.

We need to guard our hearts because that is where God puts his laws as we enter into the new covenant.

Jeremiah 31:33.

This is the covenant I will make declares the Lord I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts.

Hebrews 10:16.

This is the covenant I will make with them after that time says the Lord, I will put my laws in their hearts and write them on their minds.

Proverbs 4:23-25. Above all else, guard your heart,  for everything you do flows from it. Keep your mouth free of perversity;  keep corrupt talk far from your lips.  Let your eyes look straight ahead;  fix your gaze directly before you.

HOW CAN WE PROTECT OUR HEART?

REMEMBER THE HEART IS THE SOURCE OF ALL WE DO . .

Don’t try and prove how strong you are, the flesh is weak.

We put alarms on our houses and cars and put password protection on our computers and bank accounts, but we leave our hearts and minds open to be infiltrated by envy and lust as we expose ourselves to TV programs and magazines/books and bad company with advice and suggestions and ideas that are contrary to God’s Word.

2 Timothy 2:22. Flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.

Genesis 3:6. When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it.

EVE WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE GARDEN,

RIGHT WHERE THE TREE WITH THE FORBIDDEN FRUIT WAS.

Temptation most often enters through a door intentionally left open. If you aimlessly wander in the wilderness near the tempter's house, you can be certain you will get a visit from him. This is why we are warned to “make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires” (Romans 13:14)

Few people have known the sweet fellowship David had with God. His delight in God marked the lines of his songs and the steps of his life. Whether in trial, trouble, or celebration, David’s heart was always oriented toward enjoying God Yet even those who love God can be wooed away from him. We do not know why David stayed back from battle that spring afternoon. Yet as he strolled aimlessly on his palace roof, his unattended heart fell prey to forbidden beauty. Rather than flee, he lingered.

A look, a longing, an inquiry, adultery, lies, conspiracy, murder, and attempted cover-up. David would repent and find forgiveness from God, but the consequences of his sin sent incalculable ripples throughout the kingdom (Psalm 51).

The hot coals of David’s heart for God had grown cold with complacency. He had been strong for so long, yet he hit cruise control. His affections for God diminished and the tempting beauty of sin ignited his flesh. He played roulette with sin, and the thrill quickly turned to devastating destruction.

Hebrews 10:25.(CEB)

Don’t stop meeting together with other believers, which some people have gotten into the habit of doing. Instead, encourage each other, especially as you see the day drawing near.

Hebrews 3:13.

But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.

(THE PROTECTION OF FAMILY)

A LION LOOKS FOR SOLITARY PREY

WE NEED EACH OTHER.

Genesis 2:18.(CEV) The Lord God said, It isn't good for the man to live alone. I will make a suitable partner for him.

Psalm 68:6.(CEV)

You find families for those who are lonely.

A LION LOOKS FOR SOLITARY PREY

Abraham interceded as did moses, but our greatest intercessor is Jesus himself.

Romans 8:34. Christ Jesus who died, more than that, who was raised to life, is at the right hand of God  and is also interceding for us.

Hebrews 7:24-25. Because Jesus lives forever, he has a permanent priesthood. Therefore, he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.

Luke 22:31-32. Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift all of you as wheat.   But I have prayed for you,  Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.

JESUS INTERCEEDED FOR HIS DISCIPLES.

John17:14-15.

I have given them your word and the world has hated them, for they are not of the world any more than I am of the world.  My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one.

Jesus said that he has given us GOD’S WORD, so we need to make sure we hide it in our heart.

GOD’S WORD PROTECTS OUR HEART.

John 17:14-15.

I have given them your word.

GOD’S WORD PROTECTS US FROM OUR SINFUL NATURE.

Psalm 119:11

I have hidden your WORD in my heart that I might not sin against you.

LET US LOOK AT THE WHOLE PASSAGE FOR CONTEXT.

Psalm 119:9-16.(MEMORIZE THE WORD)

How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to your WORD. I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands. I have hidden your WORD in my heart that I might not sin against you.

Praise be to you, Lord; teach me your decrees. With my lips I recount all the laws that come from your mouth. I rejoice in following your statutes as one rejoices in great riches. I meditate on your precepts and consider your ways. I delight in your decrees; I will not neglect your WORD.

GOD’S WORD PROTECTS US FROM SATAN.

Matthew 4:3-4.

The tempter came to him and said, If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.

Jesus answered, It is written Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.

WE NEED A HEART PROTECTED BY PRAYER & PEACE.

Philippians 4:6-7.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God, And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Psalms 119:165. Great peace have those who love your law, and nothing can make them stumble.

GREAT PEACE COMES FROM LOVING GOD’S WORD.

“The peace of God". requires a change of

THOUGHT-LIFE AND BEHAVIOUR SO: WE NEED TO MAKE SURE OUR HEARTS ARE FILLED WITH THE WORD OF GOD.

Philippians 4:8-9.

Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble

whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is

admirable if anything is excellent or praiseworthy think about such

things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me or seen

In me put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.

PREPARES US FOR A PURPOSE.

WE ARE PREPARED TO PRAY, PRAISE AND TO PREACH, NOT JUST TO PARK IN A PEW

PREACHING IS NOT JUST WHAT WE PROFESS AND PROCLAIM, BUT ALSO WHAT WE PRACTICE

1 Peter 3:15. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have

1 John 3:3 All who have this hope in him purify themselves,  just as he is pure.

THE PRESCRIPTION FOR THE HEART.

GOD’S WORD

1 Peter 3: 1-6.

Wives, in the same way submit yourselves to your own husbands so that, if any of them do not believe the word, they may be won over without words by the behaviour of their wives, when they see the purity and reverence of your lives.

1 Peter 2:12.

Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.
