Q: What does this passage mean?
A: There is disagreement about the meaning of this saying of Jesus. Some options as to what Jesus meant are:

1) Developing good or wrong images in your mind.
2) Being careful what you watch - Jesus is referring to the images we take in visually.
3) Getting our priorities right with regards to money and material possessions.

SERMON TOPIC: Money

Speaker: Ken Paynter

Language: ENGLISH

Date: 24 March 2013

Topic Groups: TITHING, FINANCES

Sermon synopsis: When you talk about money in a secular environment i.e.
the outside world, people's eyes light up and you have their attention. When you speak about money in the Church people get uncomfortable and uneasy. I am sure you have heard people say 'The Church is only interested in money'.
Now although I don’t agree with the emphasis and doctrine of some churches or ministers with regards to money and prosperity etc I believe the problem the unbeliever, and sadly many professing Christians have is that they cannot serve two masters (and they love money). So ministry that challenges them to part with their money is not well received.

What are you doing with the money, resources, talents and time that God has entrusted you with?

SERMON TOPIC: Christian Giving

Speaker: Leston Blackburn

Language: ENGLISH

Date: 29 April 2012

Topic Groups: FINANCES, TITHING

Sermon synopsis: 2 Cor 9:6 Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. 7 Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 8 And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. 9 As it is written:
“He has scattered abroad his gifts to the poor;
his righteousness endures forever.” 10 Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. 11 You will be made rich in every
way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.

Speaker: Ken Paynter

Language: ENGLISH

Date: 8 August 2010

Sermon synopsis: Matt 6:24 No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.

Gavin-Paynter/Gavin-Paynter.jpg

SERMON TOPIC: Giving, Tithing and Stewardship

Speaker: Gavin Paynter

Language: ENGLISH

Date: 12 July 2009

Topic Groups: STEWARDSHIP, FINANCES, TITHING

Sermon synopsis: Stewardship pertains to all areas of our lives: money, resources, talents & ministry.
Stewardship is personal responsibility for taking care of another person’s property or financial affairs.
Herein lies the fundamental principle of biblical stewardship. We own nothing. God owns everything; we are simply managers. The Bible says, “You may say to yourself, ‘My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me.’ But remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth.” (Deuteronomy 8:17-18)
Financial stewardship is based on the belief that God is the true owner of each person’s possessions, and that one is accountable to God for the acceptable care and use of those possessions.

SERMON TOPIC: Priorities

Speaker: Ken Paynter

Language: ENGLISH

Date: 19 May 1996

Topic Groups: PRIORITIES, FINANCES, TITHING

Sermon synopsis: Matt 6:19 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
...
24 “No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.
25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?
28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
