SERMON TOPIC: How to overcome temptation

Speaker: Gavin Paynter

Language: ENGLISH

Date: 15 April 2012

Topic Groups: TEMPTATION, HOLINESS, OVERCOMING

Sermon synopsis: The source of temptation is not God.
James 1:13 When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone…

Rather the source of temptation is (1) The world (2) The flesh (3) The devil.
Although God is not the source of temptation, He can use it to accomplish His purposes.

e.g. Jesus was tempted by the devil, but God allowed it.
Matt 4:1 Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil.

SERMON TOPIC: Lead us not into temptation

Speaker: Ken Paynter

Language: ENGLISH

Date: 10 March 2002

Topic Groups: TEMPTATION, SIN

Sermon synopsis: Regarding authority what can we learn from David and how he handled Saul’s treatment of himself? What of Moses and the rebellion and Korah, Dathan and Abiram and also at one stage of Aaron and Miriam?

Pride is the root cause of rebellion and was the very cause of Satan’s own rebellion.

James 4:6-7 But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

SERMON TOPIC: God's tests

Speaker: Ken Paynter

Language: ENGLISH

Date: 27 August 2000

Topic Groups: SUFFERING, TEMPTATION

Sermon synopsis: God tested his people repeatedly on their journey from Egypt to Canaan. How can we apply this to our lives? We look at just 3 of the tests:

(1) The test of Baptism (death to self),
(2) Turning our bitter waters sweet,
(3) Feeding on the manna of God daily.

Every bad situation that comes your way can either make you BITTER or BETTER – you choose.

Deut 8:1 Be careful to follow every command I am giving you today, so that you may live and increase and may enter and possess the land that the LORD promised on oath to your forefathers. 2 Remember how the LORD your God led you all the way in the desert these forty years, to humble you and TO TEST YOU in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands. 3 He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your fathers had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD.

Speaker: Lawrence Lightbody

Language: ENGLISH

Date: 20 August 2000

Topic Groups: TEMPTATION, MERCY

Sermon synopsis: Heb 4:14 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet was without sin. 16 Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
