Ken-Paynter/Funeral-Lynn-Cameron.jpg

SERMON TOPIC: Funeral - Lynn Cameron

Speaker: Ken Paynter

Language: ENGLISH

Date: 6 June 2019

Topic Groups: FUNERAL, DEATH, SALVATION

Sermon synopsis: Death is not a popular topic of conversation and people in general avoid having to deal with it. We cannot however avoid death as somewhere along the line we are confronted with our own mortality, and we face questions that at times we think there are no answers for.

Ken-Paynter/Funeral_Elize-Mathiesen.jpg

SERMON TOPIC: Funeral - Elize Mathiesen

Speaker: Ken Paynter

Language: ENGLISH

Date: 3 May 2019

Topic Groups: FUNERAL, DEATH, SALVATION

Sermon synopsis: Our idea as humans of what is good and what is evil is very different from what God says is good and what is evil.

Modern psychology states that man is inherently good and that a person’s upbringing or environment is what is responsible for how they turn out, but God’s Word paints a very different picture of the state of humankind.

Richard-Bandawo/THE-PREACHING-OF-THE-CROSS2.jpg

SERMON TOPIC: THE PREACHING OF THE CROSS

Speaker: Richard Bandawo

Language: ENGLISH

Date: 19 April 2019

Topic Groups: EASTER, CRUCIFIXION, SALVATION

Sermon synopsis: We are living in a day when the message of the church is changing. Churches, and even whole denominations, are moving away from the old message of salvation through the blood of Jesus, and are moving toward a message of salvation through social activism and good works. The old bloody message of the cross is quickly being replaced by a bloodless message that lacks power and that lacks hope. Instead of hearing the devastating, but life changing news that men are sinners, people hear a message that tells them, 'I'm OK and you're OK!'

Ken-Paynter/Saving-Faith.jpg

SERMON TOPIC: Saving Faith

Speaker: Ken Paynter

Language: ENGLISH

Date: 24 March 2019

Topic Groups: FAITH, SALVATION, REPENTANCE

Sermon synopsis: You are saved by faith.
You cannot be saved by works.

Romans 4:1-5 NKJV What then shall we say that Abraham our father has found according to the flesh? For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something of which to boast, but not before God. For what does the Scripture say? Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness. Now to him who works, the wages are not counted as grace but as debt. But to him who does not work but believes on Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is accounted for righteousness.

Gavin-Paynter/Free-from-the-curse.jpg

SERMON TOPIC: Free from the curse

Speaker: Gavin Paynter

Language: ENGLISH

Date: 3 March 2019

Topic Groups: GENERATIONAL CURSES, SALVATION, LEGALISM

Sermon synopsis: In the OT, we also see that someone who was hung on a tree was under God’s curse:

Deut 21:22-23 If a man guilty of a capital offense is put to death and his body is hung on a tree, you must not leave his body on the tree overnight. Be sure to bury him that same day, because anyone who is hung on a tree is under God’s curse.

But in the NT we see that Jesus was “hung on a tree” when he was crucified and thus became cursed of God. He took away our curse by becoming a curse for us.

Gal 3:13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree.”

Gavin-Paynter/Room-for-Jesus.jpg

SERMON TOPIC: Room for Jesus

Speaker: Gavin Paynter

Language: ENGLISH

Date: 25 December 2018

Topic Groups: CHRISTMAS, LUKE, SALVATION

Sermon synopsis: There was no room for Jesus at his birth.
But there was no room for him even in his death - and so he was buried in a borrowed tomb.
And there had been no room for him in his ministry:
Sadly the only room Jerusalem had for Jesus was on a cross.
Does our modern world have room for Jesus this Christmas?
Jesus came to our world as a poor peasant baby born in the most humble circumstances. But his prophesied title was ‘Immanuel’ meaning “God with us”.

Are you like those who were unaware of God’s visitation – or do you, like the Magi and the shepherds, use this as a time to pay homage to your king and redeemer?

Ken-Paynter/Funeral-Allan-Fleet.jpg

SERMON TOPIC: Funeral - Allan Fleet

Speaker: Ken Paynter

Language: ENGLISH

Date: 13 July 2018

Topic Groups: FUNERAL, DEATH, SALVATION

Sermon synopsis: James 4:13-16 Now listen, you who say, Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money. Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that. As it is, you boast in your arrogant schemes. All such boasting is evil.

Gavin-Paynter/God-so-loved-the-world-Part2.jpg

SERMON TOPIC: God so loved the world - Part 2

Speaker: Gavin Paynter

Language: ENGLISH

Date: 25 February 2018

Topic Groups: JOHN 3v16, LOVE, SALVATION

Sermon synopsis: The chorus of the hymn, “The Love of God” goes:

O Love of God, how rich and pure!
How measureless and strong!
It shall forevermore endure
The saints and angels song.

When the author F.M. Lehman (1868-1953) tried to write a third verse to the song, the words just wouldn’t fall into place. He then thought of a card he had once received that had on it a poem about the love of God. He searched for the card and soon found it. Lehman read the words on the card and his heart was just as thrilled with the poem as the first time he read it. He began to voice the words of the poem with the melody he had composed for his song. They fit perfectly and he knew he had his third verse to his song.

Lehman noticed at the bottom of the card some smaller but heavier printing. It told the story of the origin of the poem. It was found written on a prison wall some 200 years earlier. It wasn’t known why the prisoner was incarcerated; nor if the words were original or if he had heard them elsewhere. Whatever the circumstances, he had written them on the wall of his prison cell. That third stanza goes:

Could we with ink the ocean fill
And were the skies of parchment made,
Were every stalk on earth a quill
And every man a scribe by trade,
To write the love of God above
Would drain the ocean dry,
Nor could the scroll contain the whole
Though stretched from sky to sky.

Ken-Paynter/Spiritual-blindness.jpg

SERMON TOPIC: Spiritual blindness

Speaker: Ken Paynter

Language: ENGLISH

Date: 18 February 2018

Topic Groups: SALVATION

Sermon synopsis: Scripture often employs the imagery of blindness to describe the spiritual condition of persons who are either unable or unwilling to perceive divine revelation.

The things of God are perceived not by observation and inquiry, but by revelation and illumination.

Matt 11:25-27 At that time Jesus said, I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this is what you were pleased to do. All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

They forget that they too are expending their lives ... and when the bubble has burst, they will have nothing of eternal significance to show for the years they have wasted.”

Des-Burrows/Des-Burrows2.jpg

SERMON TOPIC: A Man Named NOT SURE

Speaker: Des Burrows

Language: ENGLISH

Date: 11 June 2017

Topic Groups: SALVATION

Sermon synopsis: John 20:24 Now Thomas (also known as Didymus), one of the Twelve, was not with the disciples when Jesus came. 25 So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord!”

But he said to them, “Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.”

26 A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” 27 Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.”

28 Thomas said to him, “My Lord and my God!”

29 Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”

Des-Burrows/Des-Burrows2.jpg

SERMON TOPIC: A man named Deceived

Speaker: Des Burrows

Language: ENGLISH

Date: 16 April 2017

Topic Groups: SALVATION

Sermon synopsis: Matthew 13:34-35 (HCSB) Jesus told the crowds all these things in parables, and He would not speak anything to them without a parable, so that what was spoken through the prophet might be fulfilled: I will open My mouth in parables; I will declare things kept secret from the foundation of the world.

Gavin-Paynter/Jesus-in-the-Old-Testament-Part5-The-ark.jpg

SERMON TOPIC: Jesus in the Old Testament - Part 5 - The ark

Speaker: Gavin Paynter

Language: ENGLISH

Date: 4 September 2016

Topic Groups: THE ARK, SALVATION, TYPOLOGY

Sermon synopsis: It’s apparent that the ark is a type of Jesus. The ark was a shelter and refuge from the storm.

Col 3:3 … your life is now hidden with Christ in God.

Just as the ark was God’s chosen method for saving the ancient world from judgement, so Jesus is God’s means of saving us from the coming judgement.

John 3:17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.

God had instructed Noah “make rooms in it and coat it with pitch inside and out” (6:14).

The pitch is a picture of the atonement. Like the pitch covered the ark, Jesus’ blood covers our sin. The word translated ‘coat’ is the Hebrew ‘kaphar’ (Strong’s 3722) can mean “cover over” (figurative). It is elsewhere translated appease, make atonement, pacified, forgiven or reconcile.

The word translated ‘pitch’ is the Hebrew ‘kopher’ (Strong’s 3724) can mean “the price of a life”. It is elsewhere translated ransom or satisfaction.

Speaker: Ken Paynter

Language: ENGLISH

Date: 18 December 2015

Topic Groups: SALVATION, HELL

David-Makiyi/David-Makiyi.jpg

SERMON TOPIC: You cannot hide from God

Speaker: David Makiyi

Language: ENGLISH

Date: 12 April 2015

Topic Groups: SALVATION

Sermon synopsis: 2 Chron 18:20-26 Finally, a spirit came forward, stood before the Lord and said, ‘I will entice him.’
‘By what means?’ the Lord asked.
‘I will go and be a deceiving spirit in the mouths of all his prophets,’ he said.
‘You will succeed in enticing him,’ said the Lord. ‘Go and do it.’
“So now the Lord has put a deceiving spirit in the mouths of these prophets of yours. The Lord has decreed disaster for you.”...

The king of Israel then ordered, “Take Micaiah and send him back to Amon the ruler of the city and to Joash the king’s son, and say, ‘This is what the king says: Put this fellow in prison and give him nothing but bread and water until I return safely.’?”
Micaiah declared, “If you ever return safely, the Lord has not spoken through me.” Then he added, “Mark my words, all you people!”

Ken-Paynter/Death.jpg

SERMON TOPIC: Death

Speaker: Ken Paynter

Language: ENGLISH

Date: 1 February 2015

Topic Groups: DEATH, HELL, SALVATION

Sermon synopsis: Death is man’s final appointment on earth. Death is not a popular topic of conversation and people in general avoid having to deal with it and either embrace the lie that everyone goes to heaven because God is too loving to send anyone to hell or they come up with another myth called re-incarnation.
However Jesus himself spoke much about hell.

Gavin-Paynter/No-room-in-the-inn.jpg

SERMON TOPIC: No room in the inn (Christmas)

Speaker: Gavin Paynter

Language: ENGLISH

Date: 25 December 2014

Topic Groups: CHRISTMAS, SALVATION

Sermon synopsis: Luke 2:7 She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

Does our modern world have room for Jesus this Christmas?

Some see Christmas simply as a time to have drunken parties. This is how they honour the birth of the Lord.

Others are caught up in the commercialisation of Christmas and see it just as a time for receiving gifts – forgetting the greatest gift of all – God’s gift of his Son.

Others have allowed the purpose of the day that commemorates the birth of our Lord to be forgotten. Jesus’ place is usurped by other ‘heroes’. Santa, Rudolph the reindeer, Frosty the snowman and Tiny Tim.

So this Christmas and indeed in your life in general: have you made room for Jesus?

Gavin-Paynter/The-book-of-life.jpg

SERMON TOPIC: The book of life

Speaker: Gavin Paynter

Language: ENGLISH

Date: 3 August 2014

Topic Groups: BOOK OF LIFE, SALVATION, JUDGEMENT

Sermon synopsis: God’s prophet Moses says that God has written a book:
Exodus 32:32 “… if not, then blot me out of the book you have written.”

The apostle John tells us that the book, called the book of life, belongs to the Lamb (Jesus):
Revelation 13:8 … the Lamb’s book of life, the Lamb who was slain from the creation of the world.

The book of life will also be opened at the judgment.
Revelation 20:12a And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life.

Those whose names are not in the book of life will be condemned.
Revelation 20:15 Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire.

SERMON TOPIC: The value of a soul - Part 3 (The pearl of great price)

Speaker: Gavin Paynter

Language: ENGLISH

Date: 27 April 2014

Topic Groups: THE SOUL, PSYCHOLOGY, SALVATION

Sermon synopsis: Your soul is the most valuable possession you have.

(1) More valuable than the body:
Matt 10:28 Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul.

(2) More valuable than the whole world:
Matt 16:26 What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul?

Ken-Paynter/20140213_Funeral-Nick-Georgakis.jpg

SERMON TOPIC: Funeral of Nick Georgakis

Speaker: Ken Paynter

Language: ENGLISH

Date: 13 February 2014

Topic Groups: FUNERAL, DEATH, SALVATION

Sermon synopsis: When life caves in, you do not need reasons, you need comfort. You do not need some answers; you need someone. And Jesus does not come to us with an explanation; he comes to us with his presence. We are seeking the reason. We want to know why. Like Job, we finally want God to tell us just what is going on…

But God does not reveal his plan, he reveals himself. He comes as warmth when we are cold, fellowship when we are alone, strength when we are weak, peace when we are troubled, courage when we are afraid, songs when we are sad, and bread when we are hungry.

He is with us on our journeys. He is there when we are at home. He sits with us at our table. He knows about funerals and weddings and commencements and hospitals and jails and unemployment and labour and laughter and rest and tears. He knows because he is with us. He comes to us again and again.
(Bob Benson)

Sermon synopsis: Will a loving God send sinners to hell?
Who spoke the most about hell in the Bible?
Was the story of the rich man who went to hell a parable?
Is there consciousness in hell, “soul sleep” or annihilation?
We look at the death of the godless and the godly including deathbed quotes from Cesare Borgia, Mahatma Gandhi, Napoleon Bonaparte, Charles IX, Sir Francis Newport, Thomas Carlyle, Honoré Mirabeau, David Strauss, Josef Stalin, Thomas Hobbes and Robert Ingersoll – contrasted with D.L. Moody, John Leland, John Newton, Adoniram Judson, King David, the martyr Stephen, the apostle Paul and Jesus Christ.

SERMON TOPIC: The Parable of the TWO sons – Part 2

Speaker: Des Burrows

Language: ENGLISH

Date: 22 September 2013

Topic Groups: PARABLES, SALVATION

Sermon synopsis: “What was he listening to that made him decide to do what he did?” And the key for us, Christians, is getting God’s word into our inner being. Because what we listen to enters the mind and give birth to what we believe as truth in the heart. And when this becomes settled in our heart we become the “Prodigal”

Sermon synopsis: Jesus told the lost son (prodigal), the lost sheep, and the lost coin as one, inter-related parable. REPENTANCE IS THE THEME OF THE PARABLES. Speaker: Gavin Paynter

Topic Groups: SOTERIOLOGY, SALVATION

Sermon synopsis: Sin is breaking God’s law or falling short of the standard that God has set. So sin is always against God. Although David committed adultery with Uriah’s wife and was responsible for his death, he sees his sin as against God - not Uriah.
Psalm 51:1,4 Have mercy on me, O God... Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you are proved right when you speak and justified when you judge.

Siegfried-Aussel/Siegfried-Aussel.jpg

SERMON TOPIC: The wrath of God

Speaker: Siegfried Aussel

Language: ENGLISH

Date: 10 June 2012

Topic Groups: SALVATION

Sermon synopsis: Rom 1:16 I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile.
17 For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, a just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.”
18 The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness,
19 since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them.
20 For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities - his eternal power and divine nature - have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.

Sermon synopsis: Luke 18: 6-8 (NIV)

6 And the Lord said, “Listen to what the unjust judge says. 7 And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off? 8 I tell you, he will see that they get justice, and quickly.

However, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?”

SERMON TOPIC: The fool

Speaker: Ken Paynter

Language: ENGLISH

Date: 18 September 2011

Topic Groups: FOOLISHNESS, SALVATION

Sermon synopsis: 1 Corinthians 1:20-27.
Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through wisdom did not know God, it pleased God through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe. For Jews request a sign, and Greeks seek after wisdom; but we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling block and to the Greeks foolishness, but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men. For you see your calling, brethren, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called. But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; and the base things of the world and the things that are despised God has chosen, and the things that are not, to bring to nothing the things that are, that no flesh should glory in his presence.

Topic Groups: SALVATION, SIN

Sermon synopsis: The Biblical perspective of what it means to be lost and why we need to be saved.

SERMON TOPIC: Born Again Christians

Speaker: Ken Paynter

Language: ENGLISH

Date: 14 August 2011

Topic Groups: BORN AGAIN, SALVATION

Sermon synopsis: 'Born again' is a phrase we have heard about in a bad light more often than a good light in the secular world and press.
Let us look at scripture to see if this is biblical and if and why it is necessary.
John 3:1-5 There was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. This man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, 'Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that you do except God
is with him.'
Jesus answered and said to him, 'Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the Kingdom of God.'
Nicodemus said to Him, 'How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be
born?'
Jesus answered, 'Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the Kingdom of God.'

Topic Groups: BORN AGAIN, SALVATION

Sermon synopsis: One of the most controversial subjects in Christian circles in this modern age is the New Testament teaching, introduced by Jesus Christ, of the new birth or the “Born again experience.”

Jesus chose to clarify this indisputable argument by revealing its true spiritual meaning and application to a Pharisee named Nicodemus, a religious teacher of the Jews, thus proving that the born again experience is not a concept that can be bestowed onto a person by any religious organisation or church and that it did not have its origin through man’s invention, but is a Spiritual requirement of God, performed by the Holy Spirit, to completely restore the sinful nature of man inherited from Adam, deal with the judgment that it deserves, and create in him a new nature acceptable to God.

SERMON TOPIC: The fool - Part 1

Speaker: Ken Paynter

Language: ENGLISH

Date: 2 September 2007

Topic Groups: FOOLISHNESS, SALVATION

Sermon synopsis: Psalm 14
The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, their deeds are vile; there is no one who does good.
2 The LORD looks down from heaven on the sons of men to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God. 3 All have turned aside, they have together become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one.
4 Will evildoers never learn— those who devour my people as men eat bread and who do not call on the LORD?
5 There they are, overwhelmed with dread, for God is present in the company of the righteous. 6 You evildoers frustrate the plans of the poor, but the LORD is their refuge.
7 Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion! When the LORD restores the fortunes of his people, let Jacob rejoice and Israel be glad!

SERMON TOPIC: The Narrow Road and the four lane highway to hell

Speaker: Ken Paynter

Language: ENGLISH

Date: 18 November 2001

Topic Groups: SALVATION, HELL

Sermon synopsis: The message of the exclusiveness of Christianity as the only way to God is not something contrived by Christians, but was taught plainly by our Lord himself.

Matt 7:13 “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14 But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.
Proverbs 14:12 There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death.
John 14:6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.'

John 10:7 Therefore Jesus said again, “I tell you the truth, I am the gate for the sheep. 8 All who ever came before me were thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. 9 I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. He will come in and go out, and find pasture. 10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.'

1 John 5:10 Anyone who believes in the Son of God has this testimony in his heart. Anyone who does not believe God has made him out to be a liar, because he has not believed the testimony God has given about his Son. 11 And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.

Speaker: Phil Edwards

Language: ENGLISH

Date: 20 September 1998

Topic Groups: BORN AGAIN, SALVATION

Sermon synopsis: John 3:1 Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a member of the Jewish ruling council. 2 He came to Jesus at night and said, “Rabbi, we know you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the miraculous signs you are doing if God were not with him.”
3 In reply Jesus declared, “I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again.”
4 “How can a man be born when he is old?” Nicodemus asked. “Surely he cannot enter a second time into his mother’s womb to be born!”
5 Jesus answered, “I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. 6 Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. 7 You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born again.’ 8 The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”
