Sermon synopsis: Eph 4:11-13 “It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.”

We must be teachable, but not gullible.

The evangelist looks at the congregation and sees empty chairs -
The pastor looks at the congregation and sees empty hearts -
The teacher looks at the congregation and sees empty heads.

It’s pointless just leading someone to Christ and then leaving them – they need to be discipled and taught – or they will fall away.

A theologian takes the simple truths of God’s Word and makes them so profound that ordinary people don’t understand them -
A teacher takes the profound truths of God’s Word and makes them so simple that ordinary people can understand them.

Studying error is unedifying – but false teaching must be dealt with.

3 dangers exist:
(1) Intellectualism
(2) Emotionalism
(3) Decision-ism.
