SERMON TOPIC: Judgements and the bride of Christ

Speaker: Gavin Paynter

Language: ENGLISH

Date: 25 February 2019

Topic Groups: JUDGEMENT, PROPHECY, FUTURISM

Sermon synopsis: Each one of the Dispensations ends with judgment/s.

There are 3 main judgments that are often confused:
- The Bema judgment
- The Sheep Goat judgment (of the nations)
- The Great White Throne judgment

Israel is spoken of as God’s wife while the Church is seen as the Bride of Christ. These are figures of speech which we call metaphors. So while the Church is not literally Christ’s bride, it is a useful picture speaking of the relationship that exists between the Church and Jesus.

SERMON TOPIC: The return of Christ and the Rapture

Speaker: Gavin Paynter

Language: ENGLISH

Date: 18 February 2019

Topic Groups: PROPHECY, RAPTURE, FUTURISM

Sermon synopsis: Some arguments for the Pre-Trib Rapture being a separate event to the Second Advent are:

There were 2 phases to the First Coming.
The church is not appointed to (God’s) wrath.
The church is not mentioned between Rev 3 and Rev 22:16.
The “blessed hope” versus the “Time of Jacob’s trouble”.
Who populates the Millennial earth?
There is a known day (Rapture) and an unknown day(2nd Advent), the righteous removed (Rapture) versus wicked removed (2nd Advent), the Lord himself (Rapture) versus “with the angels”.

SERMON TOPIC: Matthew 24 and the Great Tribulation

Speaker: Gavin Paynter

Language: ENGLISH

Date: 11 February 2019

Topic Groups: FUTURISM, PROPHECY, PRETERISM

Sermon synopsis: The events in 70 AD may be seen as a type of the ultimate fulfilment in the future Tribulation. This is because some, but not all elements of the prophecy were fulfilled in the 1st century but clearly not all (Jesus’ return, false prophets, greatest tribulation ever).

Unfortunately, it is this aspect of prophecy (dual fulfilment) that confuses some and causes Preterist to find some basis for their claims of 1st-century fulfilments.

So it is true that the Olivet discourse (Matt 24 / Luke 21) was partially fulfilled in AD 70 with the destruction of the Temple and the ceasing of sacrifice. But the Temple is going to be rebuilt and sacrifices resumed. It is at this point in the future that the total fulfilment of Jesus’ prophecies will take place, along with the Abomination of Desolation.

SERMON TOPIC: Second Coming - Preterism, Historicism and Futurism

Speaker: Gavin Paynter

Language: ENGLISH

Date: 28 March 2010

Topic Groups: PRETERISM, PROPHECY, FUTURISM

Sermon synopsis: Is the antichrist Nero, the Pope or a future political & religious leader of a revived Roman Empire? Is the mark of the beast (666) the certificate of sacrifice to the emperor, the practice of making the sign of the cross, an international Sunday law or a mark of commerce (most likely a credit facility in the form of a microchip implant or RFID tag)? These answers are determined by the view of prophecy held - Preterist, Historicist or Futurist.

While most Christians believe in the future return of Jesus, there are several areas which are hot items of debate. These include:
(1) The timing of Bible prophecy,
(2) The timing of the Millennium,
(3) The timing of the rapture.
The 4 views regarding the timing of prophecy are:
(1) Preterism - holds that most or all of the biblical prophecies concerning the End Times refer to events which actually happened in the 1st century AD.
(2) Historicism - treats the prophecies of Daniel and Revelation as finding literal earthly fulfillment through the history of the church age.
(3) Futurism - places the fulfillment of the prophecies of Daniel and Revelation mostly in the future as literal, physical, apocalyptic and global.
(4) Idealism - interprets all of the imagery of Revelation as non-literal symbols which are perpetually and cyclically fulfilled in a spiritual sense.
